Catherine’s Story

My name is Catherine Williams, and I am a licensed Cosmetologist, which is an umbrella term for one who styles hair, does skin care and nail care. However, these days I only do hair services and facial hair removal. Hailing from California, I received my training in Cosmetology at San Jose City College, which is in “Silicon Valley,” to those who find that term more familiar! San Jose is about an hour’s drive South of San Francisco. I was licensed in 1982 at the age of 28. Later I went back to the same campus to take the training to become licensed as a Cosmetology instructor, though I never did teach in a beauty college.

Beauty has always seemed to be of interest to me, and it probably happened that way because I was gawky and gangly from childhood into my teens. I was terribly skinny and I had out-of-control kinky, curly hair and no one knew what to do with it, even the stylists my mom took me to see. Guess I felt if I went to beauty college, maybe I would learn how to handle my own hair. I did learn a thing or two about my own hair, but what is more important here is that I learned how to help others with their “crowning glory” to help make the most of what they have.

When I was much younger, I was interested in modeling and fashion. At age 13, I enrolled in Sears (yes, the department store) School for Young Charmers. At age 21, I went to modeling school at Miss Lorraine’s in Los Altos, CA, and entered beauty college at age 26, in 1980. If you are smart, you can do the calculating and figure out how old I am today!

I have worked in a total of four salons in California and six salons here in Colorado Springs since moving here in 1993. My specialty is working with thin and fine hair, though all hair types are fun for me. I had a salon in a commercial location before buying a home and moving my business there. Now it’s a quiet, private and friendly experience to come have your hair done.

I was trained during the Farrah Fawcett, precision cutting era of hairstyling, but our instructors instilled the basics to understanding hair movement, and today’s styles are a fun alternative to the geometric looks that Vidal Sassoon was preaching back when. My favorite clientele are men and women aged between 30 and 100. Kids just aren’t my thing. That said, I am skilled in roller sets and back combing (some call it teasing, but generally I am pretty serious with backcombing!) as well as choppy razor cuts and tousled, unstructured looks more popular today. I color, perm, highlight with foils or cap, cut, blow style, roller set, do updos, and I do facial hair removal using a non wax product called NuFree®.

So now you know a little about me. After having my salon in a commercial location for many years, I eventually bought a house with room for my business.  My current in-home location is very private and quiet.  Since I am hearing impaired, this works well for me and offers a pleasant environment for my clients.  I work 4 days a week in the salon, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. I work Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 7 pm, to have evening hours for people who have work schedules during the daytime. I also work Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. I accept cash and personal checks as payment methods but no plastic payments of any kind. My prices have not changed since 2006 and you can review them at Services and Prices. I hope you will call soon so we can meet and figure out how to reach your hair styling goals!
